Following the imminent price cut to the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo will lose money on every unit sold, Bloomberg Japan reports.
At an Osaka press conference, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata explained that the company had to make the cut in order to improve its fiscal performance in the year to come.
Yesterday Nintendo announced plans to slash around 40 per cent off of the 3DS price in Japan, with a similar amount in the US and around 30 per cent in Europe. New pricing will come into effect on August 12 in the UK.
Nintendo will reward early adopters by offering 20 free NES and Game Boy Advance downloads from the 3DS Virtual Console. Leading video games retailer GAME told VideoGamer.com that it will announce its new 3DS price soon.
