According to a report on the Wall Street Journal, platform holder Nintendo will launch a new iteration of the Switch in the second half of 2019.
The publication says that the Big N wants to use the new Switch to boost sales momentum for its flagship console, as things have calmed somewhat since its massively successful launch in March last year.
Apparently, the new version will share 'many features' with the existing Switch console, and will still be compatible with existing games.
The WSJ goes on to say that Nintendo has yet to decide on 'what new hardware and software features to include in the upgrade,' though one option features an improved screen similar to modern smartphones, meaning it'll be thinner and more energy efficient.
As for a release date, it is speculated that Ninty could release the new Switch as early as summer 2019. Nothing official has been confirmed yet, so don't get your party poppers out until we hear something from Nintendo.
The Switch has sold nearly 20 million units worldwide to date.
