Nintendo intends to keep its family-friendly Miiverse clean of bad language and unsuitable content through a range of content filtering techniques, president Satoru Iwata has revealed.

Users of the Miiverse will be able to post messages and drawings to the social network, which poses a challenge for Nintendo.

The first method of filtering out inappropriate content is through automated filtering which will scan and pick up on naughty words.

A second level of filtering will see posts go through a “human resource” team for manual inspection. However, this level of filtering will take some time meaning a delay between the time of the Miiverse post and it appearing on the network.

“The attraction of a social network is the immediacy of the feedback,” Iwata told the LA Times, before stating that he believes “30 minutes should be acceptable.”

And on top of this, community-based content flagging will be used to help catch anything with slips through Nintendo’s nets.

Wii U will launch this holiday.
