It should come as no surprise to anybody, but once again Nintendo look and laugh at PAL gamers, by holding a London press event exposing the device, but refusing to let slip any details. Oh, how we share the joke, Nintendo.

Details of the European release of the eagerly-awaited handheld will not be revealed until at least January, so says David Yarnton, the UK general manager. So that means no details on release date, price point or software line-up or prices. In fact, what did get revealed? Not a lot.

Commenting on the handheld market, Mr Yarnton acknowledged that there were a few more serious players this time around, but was confident that Nintendo would reign supreme, citing the various GameBoy handhelds had successfully seen off many other devices during its’ lifetime. Also, in a veiled swipe at the rumoured battery-life problems of the Sony PSP, Mr Yarnton re-iterated that the DS was a console for train journeys – the whole train journey. Cue much laughter.

As for actual news, initial reports of the success of the US launch (which was Sunday) are not yet in. The Japanese launch is scheduled for Friday, December 3rd.

More news as it happens.
