Ninty has confirmed that 9.8 million people have subscribed to Switch Online, following the service's launch in September last year.

The premium online service gives members access to a bunch of extra content, including online multiplayer gaming, classic NES titles, and cloud saves. The near-10 million figure includes the family membership option, but it doesn't factor in free trial accounts.

Former Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime said last year that Switch Online is the true successor to the Virtual Console.

Switch Online's NES lineup includes a number of the system's biggest titles, including Donkey Kong, Metroid, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda, and more.

Right now it doesn't offer access to SNES games, although hopefully that will change down the line. Nintendo announced earlier this week that the Switch has hit 34.74 million units worldwide.
