For the nine-month period ending December 31, 2006, Nintendo’s net sales were up 72.8%, while operating income rose by 102.5%. This is largely down to the success of the Nintendo DS and the successful launch of the Wii.
Nintendo revealed that it sold 3.19 million Wii units worldwide in 2006, and had another 800,000 units ready to be sent to its distributors and retail customers around the world. As of January 24, 2007, approximately 1.4 million Wii systems have been connected to the internet, and 1.5 million Virtual Console games have been purchased.
Over the nine-months, 19 software titles for Nintendo platforms reached worldwide shipments of over one million units: Thee Wii games, 13 for the DS and one for the GBA.
Nintendo intends to ship six million Wii units worldwide by the end of its financial year (ends March 31, 2007).
