Nintendo has released its European release schedule for the second quarter, with several big name games now with solid release dates. As expected, the DS line-up looks pretty strong, with the massively anticipated Metroid Prime Hunters on May 5, Electroplankton on April 21 and Super Princess Peach arriving on May 26. Trauma Centre: Under the Knife is scheduled for April 28 and Metroid Prime Pinball will be released at some point in June. Also scheduled for the second quarter, but as yet without a precise release date, are Prof. Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, New SUPER MARIO BROS. and Big Brain Academy.

Unarguably a stellar list of games, but many of these titles are already available in North America.. It’s typical Nintendo, but still annoying. Of course, in the first quarter we can look forward to Mario & Luigi : Partners in Time, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Resident Evil Deadly Silence and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

The GameCube’s second quarter line-up is lacking… erm games. According to Nintendo only four titles are scheduled for release and those are Harvest Moon: Magical Melody, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, ChibiRobo! and Super Monkey Ball Adventure. A notable absence is that of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess which is looking ever more likely to be a winter 2006 release in a last hurrah for the GameCube. First quarter releases look a little stronger with Mario Party 7 in February, and then a host of games in March, which include Odama, Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, Sonic Riders and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent.

The Game Boy Advance may be playing second fiddle to the DS, but that doesn’t appear to have prevented some quality titles from heading its way in quarter two. April sees the release of Polarium Advance and Top Spin 2, followed in May by Final Fantasy IV and Wario Ware Twisted! Some titles to look out for in the first quarter are the quirky shooter Alien Hominid on February 3 and Tales of Phantasia which is expected March 31.
