Nintendo has partnered with Japanese mobile company DeNA to develop games for mobile phones and tablets.

The partnership will see both companies developing new games based on Nintendo’s range of IP built specifically for smart devices, along with a new online membership service that will be accessible across smartphones, PCs and Nintendo consoles.

Nintendo says that more information on games in development for mobile will be “forthcoming”, with DeNA eligible to use all existing IP to create new titles.

Existing Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games will not be ported to mobile platforms, Nintendo says.

As part of the agreement, Nintendo has announced plans to acquire 10% of DeNA’s outstanding stock, at a value of 22 billion yen. Similarly, DeNA will acquire 1.24% of Nintendo’s outstanding stock for an identical value.

Nintendo also revealed that it is working on a new “dedicated game system” codenamed the ‘NX’.
