Nintendo is recruiting for a new 2D and a new 3D game development project, suggesting that new Super Mario games are in the works (via WccfTech).

The two adverts were posts to its official Twitter account. The 3D development team are based in Tokyo and the only Nintendo studio in that corner of the country is Production Group 8. It’s worked on Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, and Super Mario Odyssey, so it seems likely that the 3D action title would be a new Super Mario game.

The 2D game will be managed in Kyoto, and although the advert doesn’t go into any more detail than that, there’s a big picture of Mario and a collection of Mario games. It’s probably Mario.

Super Mario Odyssey is the most recent game in the series. ‘Cappy is a revelation, exploring Kingdoms is bliss, and Super Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece,’ Colm said, and he is correct. The game came out two years ago, and it’d be nice to see what weird and wonderful mechanic Nintendo thinks up next. As for the 2D series, Super Mario Maker 2 hit the shelves this summer, so we’d imaginably be waiting a little longer for a new title. And as an aside, Super Mario Maker 2 finally got that multiplayer feature everyone was nattering on about. Players will now be able to engage their friends in versus and co-op games in ‘Nearby Play’ and ‘LAN Play’ modes.
