Nintendo is currently unable to determine the expected profit level from its Amiibo NFC figurines because of a number of uncertainties which remain, the platform holder said during its 74th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders Q&A.
“I would rather not comment on the expected profit level because there are still various uncertainties that remain, and we are not able to estimate a concrete figure,” said Shinya Takahashi, director and GM of software planning & development division.
Genyo Takeda, senior MD and GM of integrated research & development division, added: “We can only say that the expected profit level from ‘amiibo’ has not yet been determined.”
Takeda also clarified where the Amiibo name comes from, stating “We named them amiibo after ami, a word that means friend.”
Nintendo has previously said it believes amiibo can be a significant system seller.
