The MP3 player, which is sold under the name of Play Yan in Japan, has been confirmed by Nintendo for release in Europe. Speaking to Eurogamer a Nintendo rep said: “Both price and release date for Europe are still to be confirmed,” but gadget website Gizmodo has run an article stating an October release date and a price of 29.99 Euro.
The device fits into the GBA port on the DS and plays music files from a SD card which is inserted into the cart-sized adapter. This means you can carry around however many songs will fit onto the SD card you choose to use. At this time it’s unclear if Nintendo will release the player bundled with an SD card, but a 2GB card will only set you back between £20 and £30 depending on where you shop.
The unit itself features another headphone port, and a number of different skins will be available while you’re playing your tunes, including a Mario theme.
