Last night's Nintendo Direct was, as promised, a fifteen minute blast focused around the upcoming Super Mario Maker 2 and introduced a whole raft of new features for the make-your-own platfomer.

New pieces you'll get to use include slopes, the Angry Sun from Super Mario Bros 3, the ability to change water levels in your courses, On/Off switches which can change the conditions of other blocks when pressed, Snake Blocks which can wind their way around the course and much more.

The previously mentioned ability to create courses based around Super Mario 3D World was also heavily showcased, revealing that these levels in particular will be their own category and won't be able to be used with the 2D courses but for good reason, as there'll be loads of features specific to these ones, including Warp Boxes, crates and of course, Cat Mario.

Elsewhere, a new Story Mode will act as both a pretty stacked single player experience and a pseudo-tutorial to using most of these features, with over 100 levels designed by Nintendo experts. There's also all new music from long time Nintendo composer Koji Kondo.

A full suite of online modes is also promised, with both creation and competition options for up to four players. A versus mode will see you race with three other players on randomly selected courses, with a persistant ranking system. There's also co-op if you prefer to work together, and for creators a Maker profile that'll feature unlocks to make your profile stand out.

In fact, there's so much crammed into the Direct it'd be difficult to write them all down here, so here's the full 15 minute video for you to watch if you need some more info. Super Mario Maker 2 comes out on June 28 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
