Nintendo of America has announced a bunch of rather impressive statistics to show off just how great a year the DS and Wii creator had.

As we reported earlier today both consoles finished the year on a high. The Nintendo DS sold over 4 million units in the final two months of the year and the Wii notched up sales of 2.3 million over the same time period.

Yearly sales of the Nintendo DS reached almost 8.5 million, while the Wii managed an equally impressive 6.3 million.

“By the end of 2007 we were sold out of virtually all hardware, and much of our stock of software and accessories was sold out as well, thanks to the broad appeal of Wii and Nintendo DS to core gamers, women, families, grandparents – and seemingly everyone in between,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales & marketing. “And that momentum continues here in the early weeks of 2008.”

All-time sales of the Nintendo DS and Wii in the US now stand at 17.6 million and 7.4 million units respectively. And it wasn’t just the hardware which sold well, with half the Top 30 best-selling titles of the year made for Nintendo platforms.

Titles which performed particularly well include Wii Play (4.1 million units), Super Mario Galaxy (2.5 million units), and the two Nintendo DS Brain Age titles – each selling over a million units in 2007.

Nintendo also notes that the industry grew by 43% over 2006, with Nintendo responsible for 60% of that growth.
