Enslaved has a strong Hollywood connection – it’s been co-written by 28 Days Later and The Beach’s Alex Garland – but developer Ninja Theory had much grander hopes: an actual movie.

Ninja Theory creative director Tameem Antoniades revealed to Destructoid that he had pitched the idea of creating an Enslaved CGI movie, rendered in real time using Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.

“We actually really went for that,” said Antoniades. “We were serious about it. We went to all the big studios in Hollywood and pitched the idea.”

However, the concept of rendering the film in real time wasn’t striking a chord with the Hollywood money men.

“They have no idea of what real time means,” explained Antoniades. “They just care about how good it looks.”

“The fact that you say you can do this for cheap has no interest to studios whatsoever … because they don’t want to do it for cheap. They want Pixar and the other higher end [studios] to do it for 100 million dollars or 60 million dollars.”

The Enslaved film didn’t go ahead, but the game’s shaping up nicely. Enslaved is scheduled for release on October 8.
