Tecmo has announced that Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, the first title in the Ninja Gaiden franchise to appear on the Nintendo handheld, will be shipping to North America in March 2008.

Developed by Team Ninja head honcho Tomonobu Itagaki, Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword will feature an all-new story with intuitive use of the DS stylus to take control of Ninja Ryu Hayabusa like never before.

We’re promised beautiful environments, fast Ninja Gaiden-style action and a host of enemies all intent on kicking, chopping and slicing the living daylights out of Ryu. Various directional movements and taps with the DS stylus will make Ryu run, jump, attack and cast Ninpo. Combinations of movements will perform special attacks, including the “Izuna Drop” and the “Cicada Slash”, both made famous in Ninja Gaiden console games.

Unfortunately the game doesn’t even have a confirmed publisher for Europe, let alone a release date.
