Speaking to Kotaku, Team Ninjas’s Tomonobu Itagaki has revealed that he has no plans to continue the Ninja Gaiden series, on any game platforms, following the release of Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 360.

“Personally I think we were able to create the definitive 3D game in this series so I’m not planing on making any other games in the series,” Itagaki told Kotaku through a translator. “So I hope fans treat this as a swan song for the franchise.

“I think we were able to achieve everything we wanted with this game so anything else would be extraneous.”

PS3 gamers hoping to get another taste of Ninja Gaiden action also appear out of luck. Asked if Itagaki had plans for a PS3 swan song he replied: “that would be ridiculous”.

What’s next for Itagaki then? He says something “totally new, completely unrelated to anything I’ve done before. Not any part of any existing franchises.”

Ninja Gaiden 2 is scheduled for release across Europe, exclusively for Xbox 360 on June 6.
