If you weren’t aware (and you probably weren’t), International Brain Awareness Week commences on March 13. Dr. Elizabeth Zelinski, dean and executive director of University of Southern California’s Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, believes that games like Nintendo’s Brain Age can help keep older minds active.

Americans can do a great deal to maintain and even improve their mental abilities,” Zelinski explains. “Aging is about taking on new challenges for our minds. Nintendo’s Brain Age is a great way to do that.”

Brain Age on the DS (Brain Training in Europe) asks players to hold the DS like a book and carry out a number of activities to stimulate the brain. The game is due in North America on April 17, with a European release following sometime in Q2 2006.
