Operation Flashpoint: Red River will be released in the three month period beginning April 1, 2011, Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens has told Eurogamer.

In the same quarter fans can also expect the third instalment in the hit DiRT franchise, a game Cousens was keen to hype up.

“What we’re not going to do is do more of the same with each rendition of the game,” said Cousens. “There is a lot more to it.

“Let’s put it into context. It’s from probably the finest racing studio in the world. It’s between us and the Need for Speed guys, and I would argue we’re better.”

Cousens said 2012 will see a new GRID title come to market and then a new DiRT the year after that – the games will alternate each year.

Also on the release schedule will be an annual F1 title and a new Flashpoint game every other year.

An April to June release window for Red River means the tactical shooter will hit stores in a period we currently know little about. Epic’s Gears of War 3 had been slated for an April debut, but is now lined up for the autumn.

If this year’s second quarter line-up is any reflection of what what’s to come in 2011, neither Red River or DiRT 3 will get an easy ride. High profile titles launched in the second quarter included Red Dead Redemption, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Monster Hunter Tri, Super Street Fighter IV, Alan Wake, ModNation Racers, Prince of Persia, Lost Planet 2, Split/Second, UFC 2010, Blur, Super Mario Galaxy and Transformers: War for Cybertron.
