Sledgehammer’s first Call of Duty game, currently expected in 2011, will be set in space, industry sources close to the studio have told Gamasutra.

Not just set in space, but in the future with space marines, too.

The Gamasutra report didn’t reveal any further info.

We’ve had historic Call of Duty titles and we’ve had modern day Call of Duty titles, but we’re yet to have a futuristic, sci-fi Call of Duty.

Sledgehammer has the right men in charge to make a sci-fi hit. Studio heads Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey moved to Activision’s studio last winter from Visceral Games, creator of Dead Space.

It certainly sounds plausible.
