The news is sure to anger series veterans who have supported the Call of Duty games since they began on the PC, but it’s likely that the strong sales of Call of Duty 2 on the Xbox 360 have forced the publisher’s hand somewhat. Activision chairman and CEO Bobby Kotick stated that the next Call of Duty game, which is scheduled for release at the end of the year, is “not a PC product, it’s a console product and it’s all next-gen.”
PC gamers might want to hold off from mailing angry emails to Activision for a while though, as there is a possibility that this console exclusive Call of Duty title may be a franchise spin-off, just like Call of Duty: Big Red One and Call of Duty: Finest Hour, which were both released exclusively on home consoles. These games were developed by Treyarch and Spark Interactive, respectively.
Hope for PC gamers also lies in the fact that Activision expects to release anther Call of Duty game in the following fiscal year, which would keep inline with a new Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty title every two years.
