Ubisoft has announced that Protöthea, a new 3D vertical-scrolling shmup, is to be released in North America in May as part of the WiiWare launch window line-up.

The game sees players take control of a last-generation spaceship using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck and must destroy an asteroid called Maqno 01 and sabotage the plans of a political faction called The Core.

The game will feature dynamic enemy AI, meaning their actions will change based on the actions of the player. This means there is no predicable enemy paths and therefore always a different gameplay experience.

The spaceship has a range of artillery on offer including eight air-to-air weapons and two different air-to-ground bombs. The game also features a special power that decelerates time, allowing players to more easily avoid enemy fire, whilst still able to move rapidly and attack enemies.

Protöthea is developed by Sabarasa & Digital Builders and published by Ubisoft. We’re waiting to hear back from Ubisoft regarding a European release.
