Triad Wars - a new title set in the Sleeping Dogs universe - is currently in development at United Front Games, the studio has announced.

In an update posted on the studio's website this evening, UFG acknowledged that it had "been a bit tight-lipped about our current projects", but that it was "finally able to give you a little something.

"So, we're making a new game! We can't say a lot about it right now, but you might have read about a trademark registration for something called Triad Wars? Well, we're super-excited that it's another game based in the Sleeping Dogs universe, it's something we've wanted to do for ages, and we're very happy to be working with Square Enix again... but that's all we can give you for the time being - we'll have more information about what the game's going to be in 2014."

UFG's post follow reports from over the weekend that a trademark for Triad Wars had been filed by Square Enix.

Square Enix has yet to officially announce a new Sleeping Dogs title or confirm which platforms Triad Wars will release on, but recent job postings for UFG suggest it could be a next-gen console title with an online multiplayer component.

Sleeping Dogs launched last summer and went on to be somewhat of a surprise hit, holding on to the UK top spot for the first two weeks following launch.

We scored it 8/10 in our review, calling it "sharp, thrilling and just downright enjoyable".
