The upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake will be a full “from the ground up remake” of the classic PS1 horror, not a simple remaster, Capcom has confirmed.

Confirmation follows speculation that the game could just be a basic up-port after Capcom referred to it as a “remastered version of Resident Evil 2” in its latest financial report.

But that is just a “mistranslation”, Capcom UK’s senior marketing director Stuart Turner says.

“Seems to be a few people picking up a mistranslation in our own investor report,” Turner tweeted this morning. “RE2 will be a full from the ground up remake NOT a remaster.”

Capcom announced Resident a Evil 2 Remake back in August, but did not provide any screenshots or details on how it will differ from the original game. At the time, VideoGamer.com understood the game to be a complete remake of the original PS1 title built for modern platforms.

“We’re pleased to confirm that Resident Evil 2 has been approved for development,” Capcom said in August. “As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don’t have any additional information or assets to share at this time. However, for now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we’ve received on this title. We’re looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for.”

Formats and a release date have yet to be announced.
