Gamescom ONL 2025 is about to start, and there’s a lot of great games set to be a part of Geoff Keighley’s event. However, what’s important to note is that PlayStation are not appearing at the event as they are skipping it for the sixth time in a row. While this might be disappointing news, an insider has claimed that a PlayStation State of Play or Showcase is set to happen in September.

PlayStation State of Play or Showcase set for September, claims insider

On the Giant Bomb Game Mess Mornings stream that occurred on August 18th, Jeff Grubb briefly mentioned an upcoming showcase from PlayStation. After briefly discussing Sony’s in-development live-service project, Fairgame$ and wondering when we will see it again, Grubb said, “I’ve heard and this one I feel comfortable saying… they’re [Sony] planning a State of Play, or maybe a Showcase but probably a State of Play, for the end of September or before the end of September”.

Grubb added, “We’re going to get updates from Sony here pretty soon and I don’t think Fairgame$ shows up at that thing”.

If there is a State of Play or a Showcase next month, it wouldn’t be too surprising. There was a State of Play on September 24th in 2024, in 2023 on September 14th, and there was one in 2022 on September 13th. Basically, September has become a designated month for State of Play presentations.

While nothing is official, Grubb is a reliable insider that has been accurate about State of Plays in the past. Assuming Grubb is right again, the likely dates are either September 23rd-25th or September 30th.

We don’t know what games could be part of the event, but, if Fairgame$ isn’t included, maybe Bungie would fulfil the live-service portion of the event with an update on the delayed Marathon. We could also maybe hear about the leaked God of War 2D Metroidvania, and, of course, everyone wants to hear about Insomniac’s Wolverine.
