EA’s preliminary first quarter of fiscal 2020 report confirmed that a new Plants vs Zombies and a new Need for Speed will release later this year.

Under the ‘Announced Console/PC Titles’ section, there’s a firm reaffirmation that the two new entries in their franchises are currently on course for a Q3 launch. For people who don’t speak in spreadsheets, this translates to late autumn or early winter time. They’ll share the limelight with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which releases on November 15, and also surprisingly with NBA Live 20, originally planned as a second quarter entry but now evidently has been deferred to Q3.

EA recently invited alpha playtesters to a new Plants vs Zombies shooter codenamed ‘Picnic’, but this is likely to be the next sequel, especially given the details shown in this report. The playtests themselves were leaked by enthusiastic Redditors, and the alpha would begin in plenty of time for the release of a theoretical third game.

Need for Speed was also subject to a possible preemptive reveal yesterday. Austrian retailer Gameware listed a seemingly new entry to the racing series, called Need for Speed Heat, with placeholder box art from Need for Speed No Limits slapped onto it. It disappeared from the site shortly afterwards, but a blog post from EA DICE in May hints that a ‘full unveiling’ of the next game could occur at Gamescom in Germany in a few week’s time.
