A trademark filed by Nintendo for a Nintendo 64 controller could suggest that Nintendo is planning a N64 Classic Mini Edition in the future.

Keen-eyed NeoGAF user Rösti has spotted that on July 18 Nintendo filed a trademark application in Europe for four controllers: the Nintendo 64 controller, the NES controller, the SNES controller and Nintendo Switch controller. All of these trademark applications have been registered under the same category, that being goods and services.

Earlier this year Nintendo filed a similar trademark for a SNES controller, only to later officially announce that they were releasing a mini edition of the console. The mini SNES follows the NES Classic Mini that came out, and subsequently sold out, last year, and the popularity of the SNES suggests its own mini version will go the same way (and end up being re-sold for silly money online).

Logically, then, a Classic N64 Mini Edition would make sense. Hopefully it’ll have at least one of the classic N64 shooters Goldeneye or Perfect Dark on it. If only. Either way, if anything comes of this, we’ll be sure to update you.
