Almost 12 months ago Ghost Games announced that there would be a new Need For Speed title in 2017 and today it’s been confirmed that this is still the case.

In a blog post, Ghost Games heavily leaned on fan feedback being important in crafting the next game in the series. And while information was limited, they did mention they’re ‘committed to customization having a home within the Need for Speed series.’

As well as that, cop chases look to be making an appearance once again as Ghost Games went onto say ‘There’s nothing more satisfying than getting into a cop chase and feeling the heat on your tail as you tear it up through the city.’

It’s also mentioned that players will be able to race on tarmac, and off-road, but the major talking point is around online play — or lack thereof.

The 2015 reboot was much maligned for being always-online, locking players out when they didn’t have an internet connection. The sequel won’t do that. ‘When release day rolls around for the next Need for Speed, you will be able to play through a single player experience completely offline. Before you ask, and we know you will, this does mean you will be able to pause the game.’ I’m presuming they dropped the mic (or keyboard, I guess) shortly after typing this.

More concrete information is going to be revealed at Electronic Arts’ EA Play event around E3 in June, but until then, NFS fans can rest easy knowing that developer Ghost Games is sticking to its schedule.
