According to Game Informer’s Loose Talk rumours section (reported by PSU), Rockstar North is hard at work on the next Grand Theft Auto game, with a release set for holiday season 2009.

“We’re not talking about new DLC or a collection of previously available DLC, we’re talking about a full retail game,” explains Game Informer. “We expect this title to follow the suit of previous GTAs and use a subtitle such as GTA: San Andreas, etc. Tokyo might be a possible setting for the game, but details are non-existent at this time.”

While initially this does sound like wishful thinking, back when Grand Theft Auto 3 released Rockstar managed to get GTA: Vice City out the door 12 months later. Rockstar has also favoured holiday release dates, having launched eight GTA titles in October (GTA4 was also originally intended for an October 2007 release). An October 2009 release would allow Rockstar around five/six months longer than was required for Vice City.
