Apple TV will launch at the end of October in 32GB and 64GB forms, but it won’t be the console beater some rumours pegged it to be.
The updated TV box will be powered by the A8 family processor found in the iPhone 6, not the A9 which gives the newly announced 6S up to 70 per cent more processing performance and a 90 per cent increase in graphics prowess.
Technical documentation has confirmed Apple TV will feature 2GB of RAM compared to only 1GB in the iPhone 6.
The clock speed of the processor is unknown, but given the device isn’t so concerned with battery life, a suped-up speed is certainly possible.
Perhaps the most interesting element of the new Apple TV is the Siri Remote with Touch surface acting as a virtual directional pad. It also has a built-in accelerometer and gyroscope. Apple TV is also compatible with MFi-based controllers.
Games confirmed for Apple TV include Guitar Hero, Transistor, Shadowmatic, Rayman Adventures and Manticore Rising. Ubisoft says Rayman runs at 60fps on Retina displays, which presumably means it’ll cope with the maximum 1080p output of Apple TV just fine.
No UK pricing has been confirmed, but in the US the 32GB model will cost $149 and the 64GB $199.
