Cryptic has released the second trailer for its upcoming MMO Neverwinter, based on the lore of Dungeons & Dragons.

Neverwinter will let users play one of five Dungeons & Dragons classes to form part of a five-person co-op group with human or alternatively AI players.

They will additionally be able to generate their own storylines and quests using the title’s content generation system codenamed Forge.

Neverwinter will be part of a multi-platform release, along with a book trilogy from fantasy author R.A. Salvatore and a tabletop game from Wizards of the Coast. The PC title is set to release in Q4 of 2012.

While initially planned to be a simple co-op RPG, Cryptic recently stated the sudden switch to free-to-play MMO format “just made sense” as it will allow the game to reach a broader audience.

The game was originally slated to come out in 2011, but was pushed to 2012 likely because of the fundamental shift from co-op to MMO.
