Ghost Games currently has “no plans” to release to release any premium DLC or implement microtransactions in Need For Speed, the developer has said.
Instead, the studio will “release a series of free content updates” following its launch this November.
Details of the developer’s plans for the game were revealed within an FAQ on the Need For Speed website, which also confirmed that the PS4 and Xbox One versions would both run at 30fps.
“For any driving game a steady frame rate is incredibly important, and with Need for Speed we’re delivering super high production values when it comes to both visuals and sound – as can be seen in our pre-alpha footage of the game,” said community manager Ben Walke. “We always look to maximize the game technology with the platform technology for the experience we’re building, which is why the game will run at 30fps on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. By doing this we ensure that your gameplay experience remains incredibly smooth and allows you to experience the high speed, adrenaline fuelled gameplay that you’ve come to expect from the Need for Speed series.”
The FAQ also explained the reasoning behind the game’s permanent internet connection requirement.
“You will need a persistent internet connection, as Need for Speed is committed to being a live service so we can deliver an ongoing experience that is constantly changing and evolving. We will include free content updates and challenges as an ever-present ways for you to earn rewards and continually explore the game.”
Single-player content can be played without a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription, the developer added, despite the online requirements. The game will not include support for split-screen multiplayer.
Last month, executive producer Marcus Nilsson told VideoGamer.com that Ghost has “pretty significant plans” to keep players playing this year’s Need For Speed longer than previous games in the series, and suggested that the developer could release more than just car packs as DLC.
Need For Speed launches on PS4 and Xbox One on November 5, with a closed beta due to begin within the coming weeks. The PC version is due to follow early next year.
