This year’s Need For Speed game is “already looking spectacular”, according to comments made by EA CEO Andrew Wilson.

While the game has yet to be formally revealed by the publisher, Wilson discussed the series’ return during EA’s Q3 FY15 earnings call last night, saying:

“Our Need for Speed franchise will return in FY16 with a game that is already looking spectacular.”

EA chose not to ship a Need For Speed game last year – the first time the series has skipped an annual release in 12 years – to offer Ghost Games more time to deliver “an innovative new chapter of the storied franchise”.

“We are already deep in development on our next game and want to make this promise to you: we will listen to you,” Ghost’s general manager Marcus Nilsson said last year. “We’re going to give you the game you’ve been asking for. It will be the game you deserve, but to do that will take us some time.”

EA says that it’ll share more details on its “full FY16 calendar” during its next quarterly call, due to take place on May 5.
