Games publisher NCsoft will be supporting a lawsuit against the recent Cinderella Law shutdown policy passed in Korea, according to ThisIsGame.
The suit is being supported by 14 games publishers in total, in a list that includes NCsoft, Neowiz Games, and Nexon, and will be filed by The Korean Association of Game Industry (KAOGI).
The Cinderella Law was initially pushed by the Korean Government Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The law, which passed this April, forcibly shuts down online games from midnight to 6AM to prevent children 16 and under from continuously playing online computer games in an attempt to address game addiction.
In an official statement by KAOGI, it was asserted:
“The shutdown lawsuit is to raise the game industry’s voice at the time of denouncing us as a harmful industry. Since the subjects of the lawsuit are members of the association the association will just convey the industry’s voice. Therefore the lawsuit will proceed separately from the one by civic organization.”
It is likely to be officially filed this August.
