Nintendo has confirmed it has deliberately made Nintendo Switch game cartridges taste bad in order to help prevent “accidental ingestion”.
Following widespread cartridge licking, Kotaku sent off a request for a comment from Nintendo.
This is what Nintendo had to say: “To avoid the possibility of accidental ingestion, keep the game card away from young children. A bittering agent (Denatonium Benzoate) has also been applied to the game card. This bittering agent is non-toxic.”
This bittering agent is commonly used in animal repellents, shampoos and that stuff you put on your nails to stop you chewing them off.
Maybe this explains the relatively high price point for Switch games.
