We are well into the second season of MW2 & Warzone 2, but it seems as if the updates that have been brought on are barely being enjoyed by the jaded CoD community. Although a new map, an Operator, and a few game modes have been introduced recently, it may have been too little, too late as the game’s player count is steadily starting to dwindle.

According to a recently shared post on Reddit, the latest CoD installment’s number of active players has reached well below 90,000 in the past 24 hours – a significant decrease considering the totals that it was putting up in the past few months.

Commenters are predictably blaming it on Infinity Ward as the lack of innovative updates and feature additions have hurt this entry tremendously. Some, on the other hand, are pointing fingers at the strict SBMM guidelines, noting that it “sucks the fun out of multiplayer,” as you gradually get matched up with “the sweatiest of the sweaty players.”

A few users have stated that they wouldn’t be playing MW2 at all if it wasn’t for its Ranked mode. Meanwhile, others are already looking forward to the next franchise installment as many are hoping that developer Treyarch does a much better job of creating the next game.

Unfortunately, this mass exodus seems like it’ll become the norm in the next few months as players become even more burnt out with the current state of the game. Only time will tell if the developers can salvage the remains of MW2. Based on these current trends, however, it may already be too far gone.
