Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has amassed millions of players since launch – with gamers enjoying MW2’s varied maps and weapons.

However, those on Steam have got a nasty surprise, as Activision appears to have disabled Family Sharing – a service that allows you to share a single copy of the game with up to five people you know.

Modern Warfare II launched on October 28 with this feature enabled, however it has since been pulled. This is particularly hard as the game itself is expensive, with the top Vault Edition costing $100. It means that some may not be able to play the game, or will need to wait until the price drops.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to a few unhappy gamers on Reddit. One wrote: “I own the game on steam and I work I can’t play as much as my younger cousin can and neither of us want to play on the same account cause we got our own level, classes, friends ,etc ….this is just pure stupid, this works on Playstation and Xbox why tf not on steam?”

Another simply wrote: “Seriously lmao it’s actually sad they went and did this”

The good news is that on November 16, Warzone 2 launches – and we know that is free. It offers a brand new map and promises to be a lot of fun, so for those now unable to experience MW2, at least there’s a lot to look forward to with Warzone 2.

Modern Warfare 2 has faced a less than smooth launch since it kicked off on October 28. One of the more notable omissions was the lack of a Barracks in game, which means there is effectively no way to track your Kill / Death ratio. You can read all about that here.

For now, it seems very unlikely that Family Sharing for Modern Warfare 2 will be turned back on again, so those wanting to play with friends will need to make sure they all have a copy of the game.
