Playworld Superheroes, a new mobile adventure in which players can create their own superhero, has been unveiled by Liverpool-based Starship, a team founded by Evolution Studios co-founder Martin Kenwright.

Planned as a new series of games, Playworld Superheroes has been designed for children aged 5 years and older, with each player challenged to create and then become their own superhero, saving the world from a host of aliens.

The game carries a low price tag of £2.99 and no in-app purchases, and is available today from the App Store.

“Playworld is like the secret doorway into a child’s imagination,” said Kenwright. “A child has the ability to transform the most mundane item into fantastical objects of great importance, and we really tried to mimic the way that children play with Playworld. Where an adult might only see a cardboard box, a child sees endless possibility, anything from a rocket to a superhero suit. In Playworld, imagination is the greatest superpower, you truly get to become the hero of your own creations.”

Each entry in the series will begin in the treehouse, a crafting hub in which players can let their creativity take over. Gamers will have the tools to paint, cut, build, and modify their ultimate superhero suit and logo, before entering the Playworld.

The core team at Starship is formed of 20 staff members who have collectively worked on more than 69 games, including launch entries from franchises MotorStorm, WipEout, Formula 1 and World Rally Championship.

Playworld Superheroes launches today and will be compatible with iPhone 5S, 6, 6 Plus, iPad mini 2, 3, iPad Air and Air 2.
