The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Mortal Kombat X have been cancelled, Warner Bros. has announced.

Confirmation follows months of speculation over the long-delayed last-gen versions, which had originally been due to launch alongside the PS4, Xbox One and PC releases back in April.

“After months of development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has come to the regrettable conclusion that we cannot release Mortal Kombat X for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,” Warner Bros. community admin wrote on the game’s official forum

“Please know our teams worked diligently to meet the quality standards set by the current-gen versions of the game.  We were not able to get the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions to the quality expected of a Mortal Kombat game and are very sorry for not being able to deliver the products as originally planned.”

Fans who have already paid for a pre-order are advised to return to their retailer for a full refund.

The last-gen versions of Mortal Kombat X had been in development at High Voltage Software, the studio behind the PS4 and Xbox One ports of Saints Row 4 and Wii shooter The Conduit.

The cancellation follows Warner Bros.’ earlier decision to abandon the last-gen versions of Mad Max, which launches today on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Dying Light, another game published by Warner Bros., was also cancelled on Xbox 360 and PS3.
