NetherRealm Studios’ latest Kombat Kast live stream has now revealed that series staples Rain and Smoke are being brought into Mortal Kombat 1 as part of the main roster. In addition to these two familiar faces making their way back into the fray, the showcase also announced the addition of three more Kameo fighters as well in Cyrax, Frost, and Sektor.

The brutal scenes exhibited throughout the course of the preview also gave us an idea of the gruesome abilities that these new characters can execute, including the extremely gory fatalities that’ll undoubtedly have squeamish players covering their eyes in horror. Naturally, with the Mortal Kombat 1 release date just a handful of weeks away, it makes sense that the developers are starting to ramp up their marketing efforts for the highly-anticipated entry as this launch is set to be one of the biggest in the series’ history.

The exciting Lin Kuei trailer similarly gave us an idea of a few important plot points as it seems that the faction including fan-favorites Scorpion and Sub-Zero will be heavily featured throughout the story. Of course, with these fighters being heavily exhibited throughout the course of the video, viewers were treated to even more high-flying, law of nature-defying exhibitions of ice- and fire-based skills.

But aside from the revelation of more characters, NetherRealm Studios’ very first Kombat Kast live stream also included more tidbits on the game’s battle structure with community manager Tyler Lansdown, game designer Derek Kirtzic, and QA lead Stephanie Brownback providing additional commentary throughout the event. The details they provided mainly revolved around the new in-game elements such as the Kameo feature, the use of which will be heavily emphasized in the game.

With Mortal Kombat 1 now bringing back Rain and Smoke, you can surely expect more familiar fighters to return as we approach the game’s launch date. For now, though, you’ll just have to remain patient until more details are provided by the brilliant developers at NetherRealm Studios.
