As part of the Mortal Kombat 1 panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, developer NetherRealm Studios revealed the characters for their upcoming Khaos Reigns DLC, and it’s a doozy. The upcoming expansion will feature a few familiar names, including ones that you probably never thought would have made an appearance in the gory topsy-turvy world of MK: Ghostface, Conan the Barbarian, T-1000 (of Terminator fame), Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and Sektor.
That’s according to a snapshot from IGN on X (formerly Twitter), which included all six characters in the foreground of a Mortal Kombat 1 Khaos Reigns DLC graphic. Of course, those following Mortal Kombat 1 development chief Ed Boon on the same social media site may not be surprised by the Scream villain’s additions. After all, he had previously shared an image of eight iconic horror film antagonists, including those part of previous game rosters, like Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and Freddy Krueger.
This could mean that the rest of the characters in Boon’s graphic, including Jigsaw, Chuckie, Pinhead, and Michael Myers, may appear in MK1 at some point. But for now, this is mere speculation, and you’ll have to wait until NetherRealm announces it before you start spreading the good word. In addition to revealing the new fighters you can expect with the DLC, NetherRealm’s SDCC panel also showcased the return of a ‘killer’ feature in the game: Animalities.
As their name suggests, Animalities are like Fatalities, except that they use, you guessed it, animals. Although the developers are keeping mum on most of these finishing moves for now, they did reveal some you can expect to see in the game. Rain, the aptly-named weather-controlling demi-god, will be able to use a pufferfish-themed Animality. Like any other finisher in MK1, it’ll similarly be graphic, so those looking for even more gore will no doubt enjoy this upcoming feature.
