With the Mortal Kombat 1 online stress test starting yesterday many fans were left disappointed as they weren’t invited to take part. However, players are even more frustrated about the fact that some online stress test codes have appeared on eBay, with scalpers charging as much as $1,000 for a code.
Similar to what players have come to expect from videogame pre-orders and consoles in recent years, it appears that not even the Mortal Kombat 1 online stress test is free from scalpers. Players have been noting their frustration online as while some listings go as high as $1,000 other codes are actually being sold for as much as $500. One fan spotted a number of listings online with codes for the game ranging from $200 to $500 that have all sold.
Speaking on the sold listings, the player and poster known as Royal-Edenian said that it was, “Absolutely unbelievable.” Other players shared this sentiment and couldn’t believe, even given the popularity of the upcoming game, that these codes were selling for so much. One player said, “Crazy how expensive these are. I definitely saw expensive ones when street fighter did something similar but there were also some for like $20.”
Others were not so forgiving of the players who ended up purchasing these codes, which will only give them access to the stress test until July 26th, with one user saying, “If you sell it, you’re an a**hole. If you buy it, you’re stupid.” While fans have pointed out the absurdity of players buying these codes most users, like Shattered_Disk4, have taken the rather reasonable stance when viewing these listings saying, “I like Mortal Kombat. I’m not spending 500 to play a 4-character beta.”
If you don’t feel like giving scalpers $500 for an online stress test code, which is honestly the right course of action, you’ve still got plenty to look forward to with Mortal Kombat 1 over the next few months.
