A staggering 36.9 per cent of all Steam registered games have never been played, new research conducted by Ars Technica based on Steam user profile page information has revealed.

To put that another way, of the 781 million games registered to Steam, the data reveals that only 493 million have been played. A further 17 per cent of titles have been played for less than one hour.

24.6 per cent of games have been played for between 1 and 10 hours.

Unsurprisingly, Dota 2 is the most owned game on Steam with 25.93 million installs. It’s Football Manager 2014, however, which is top of the most-played per user. It also appears that fans of Farming Simulator 2013 and Mount & Blade: Warband sink a lot of hours into the titles.

Steam is also dominated by six major titles – Dota 2, TF2, CSS, CS, Civ 5 and Skyrim – which account for around half of the total estimated 18.5 billion man-hours spent on all Steam games.

Maybe you’ll think twice before going on a spending spree during the next Steam sale.
