Capcom has announced that Monster Hunter 3 is now in development for the Wii, having switched development of the game away from PlayStation 3.

Due to high development cost of titles for PS3, we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunster 3 title,” commented Capcom managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii.

Although rarely troubling the charts in Europe, The Monster Hunter Series has sold over 4 million units worldwide and is hugely popular in Japan. Had the game been released on PlayStation 3 it would have helped boost the sales of the console in Japan, where it is currently being comfortably beaten by the Wii.

In Monster Hunter 3 players will take control of a fearless hunter who adventures across huge natural environments, tracking down and battling huge and ferocious monsters.

Capcom promises to take advantage of the unique aspects of the Wii to create an all-new Monster Hunter experience, appealing to newcomers and series veterans. No release date has been announced at this time.
