A new game from Monolith Productions, makers of F.E.A.R. 2, could be announced in the coming weeks, Warner Bros. Seattle general manager Laura Fryer has said.

In an interview with Develop magazine she is quoted saying “by conference time we should also be able to talk about the latest game from the creative team behind No One Lives Forever and F.E.A.R., and what we’ve learned along the way.”

This is consistent with a rumour from 2009 that Monolith were working on a new title after a job ad revealed the developer was scouting for a software engineer to work on a first-person action title on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Current job ads with Monolith which ask for an “expert in level/world design/layout/creation, game-play/AI setup/scripting for large AAA action/adventure or open-world games” imply this may be an open-world title itself.

The job description for the Artist, FX role asks applicants to have experience with tools that could create “smoke particle systems all the way up to a fully destroyed cityscape.” Sadly that describes just about every modern FPS landscape but it does paint a decidedly bleak and potentially apocalyptic picture of the setting we have in store.
