Hot on the heels of UFC 2010 and EA’s planned Online Pass system for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 and future EA Sports titles – each bundling a code with new copies of the game which activates online functionality – comes Sony’s ModNation Racers on PSP.

The retail UMD version of ModNation on PSP comes with a voucher to activate online play. If you buy the game second hand and the voucher has already been redeemed you’ll need to purchase an ‘Online Entitlement’, priced £7.99 on the PS Store.

Mike Kebby of the SCEE PlayStation Store Team commented: “The digital copy comes with the online entitlement packaged with it, the retail copy comes with a code inside. We offer this purely for people who buy a second-hand copy and would not get the code that allows them to play online.”

He added, in response to a PlayStation Blog question: “I couldn’t comment on other publishers, but I think it’s a safe assumption to believe we’ll see it happen more often yes.”

ModNation Racers for PSP is available now in UMD and download form. A PS3 version is also in stores today.
