The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PlayStation 4 beta menu revealed Activision’s plans for Supply Boxes to return to the rebooted Modern Warfare, and players are not happy.

In an interview with Game Informer, Infinity Ward’s co-design director of multiplayer said that Modern Warfare would take a ‘player-first or player-forward’ approach. ‘It's something that's really important to us on the development side,’ he explained. ‘We want, when we release new content, for players to get access to that content and have fun with it, so it's a huge focus for us. We want players enjoying our game, having fun in our game.’ Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 became infamous for including microtransactions that locked high-tier weapons within loot boxes, and would therefore require players to shell out to acquire them or experience a gameplay disadvantage without those weapons.

This would theoretically mean that cosmetic items in loot boxes are likely, in order to support the longevity of Modern Warfare. Players are already stating that they will avoid the new game if that’s the case, but the Operators have been confirmed to only work as a cosmetic item and won’t offer any gameplay advantage.

Modern Warfare is set to release October 25, 2019, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
