Now that the big Modern Warfare 3-shaped cat is well and truly out of the bag, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have outlined some of their plans for this year’s Call of Duty instalment.
Speaking to journalists at a UK reveal for MW3, Infinity Ward creative strategist Rob Bowling was quick to sing Sledgehammer Games’ praises. “Coming out of Modern Warfare 2, we had a big vision for Modern Warfare 3,” he said, “things we wanted to add and deliver to fans this November 8 2011.”
“So we had to take a step back and look at how we could execute that. Luckily, we found an entire studio with the same passion of the franchise, shared vision, and creative skillset in Sledgehammer Games.
“We’re taking scale to an entirely new level,” said Bowling. “We’re taking players into the heart of major cities all around the world, and delivering urban combat in places like Manhattan and London.
“We’re also going throughout all of Europe, Russia, parts of Africa, and the Himalayas.”
Glen Schofield, Sledgehammer Games co-founder, also confirmed that Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer have been working together on Modern Warfare 3 for a while. “For the last year, together, Sledgehammer Games and IW have been creating and developing Modern Warfare 3,” he said.
How does Glen feel about working with Infinity Ward? “Sledgehammer Games is, of course, thrilled to be working with IW on Modern Warfare 3,” he said.
Anything else to add? “We’d rather the game do the talking for us.” We like your style, Glen.
Of course, an entire leaked plot of the game does its fair share of talking, too. Earlier this month Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 single-player details were leaked onto the internet.
To respond to the leak, Activision made Modern Warfare 3 official and released a set of teaser trailers ahead of their intended schedule.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg discussed the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 leak by saying “we woke up with a marketing crisis and wanted to go to bed with a marketing win.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was VideoGamer.com’s Game of the Year 2009. If you’re one of the two people yet to play the game, maybe Tom’s 10/10 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 review can persuade you to give it a go.
