UPDATE: Major Nelson has said that the two games were listed as backward compatible in “error” and that the list is in the process of being corrected.
ORIGINAL REPORT: The Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion are now backward compatible with Xbox One, according to Xbox.com.
Except they aren’t. Not quite yet, at least.
Nevertheless the blunder suggests that they could be heading to backward compatibility very shortly. A similar slip-up occurred with Skate 3 last week, when an advert on the Xbox 360 dashboard claimed that it was backward compatible hours before Microsoft flipped the switch.
The two games are currently on sale, too, although I wouldn’t recommend buying them until we get the all clear from Microsoft that they are actually heading to Xbox One back compat.
If it’s true, expect an official announcement later today.
