Activision set a new video games industry record for day one shipments with the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the publisher said during an earnings call overnight.
“The record number of pre-orders from Modern Warfare 3 drove the largest day-one shipments in our history, and in the industry’s history,” said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg.
According to Hirshberg, more than 1.5 million people queued up at midnight launches.
CEO Bobby Kotick added: “The launch of Modern Warfare 3 was the largest in Activision Blizzard’s history, and our global organisation remains laser-focused on delivering the largest entertainment launch of all time for the third consecutive year and to exceed the record set by Black Ops life-to-date.”
Day one sales figures are yet to be released by Activision.
