UPDATE: Trion Worlds has released a statement on the matter and confirmed that it will be lowering the price of its monthly Patrons to reflect its earlier comments.
ORIGINAL REPORT: MMO fans are seeking answers from Trion Worlds over its decision to charge around 20% more than previously promised for a monthly Patron to its latest ‘online sandbox’ ArcheAge.
The pricing for the new MMO was revealed last week, with European fans surprised to learn that they’d need to pay £10.99/month for Patron status, £2 more per month than previously indicated.
An earlier video hosted by Trion stated that the game’s pricing would be “identical” to RIFT, another online title from the publisher whose monthly Patron currently costs £8.99. In the US, the price for an ArcheAge Patron is said to be the same as RIFT.
While the game is free-to-play, paying for Patron status grants access to a 10% XP bonus, faster labour, loyalty tokens and additional bonuses.
“I can’t imagine that 8.99 would ever have been correct,” tweeted Trion CEO Scott Hartsman, seemingly unaware of RIFT’s EU pricing. “It’s impossible due to VAT.”
